Maes Honey is the leading honey producer in Spain and the only company in Spain that has all the certifications: IFS, BRC, FDA, Kosher and Halal. To achieve them, it constantly exceeds strict quality controls.
-Enrique, you are the export director. Currently you are a reference in the market. What do you think is due?
-Maes stands out for his tireless work. We are always at the bottom of the canyon and we do not stop traveling to know the trends of the markets and speak face to face with customers to know their needs and listen to their proposals. Active listening is very important in the business.
-And in all the opinions you receive at meetings. What is the most important thing about your customers?
-The first thing is that being the main export of honey in Spain makes them think, that we should do things right. In addition, when they know our facilities they are surprised and very satisfied. And of course, the most important thing that stands out is the service and quality that we offer.
-I suppose it has not been easy to get where you are …
-We are, in fact, in the most diverse markets. In the beginning MAES started selling to Spain, then Europe and we are currently in 34 countries. It has been necessary to have an open mind, be flexible, be fighters, adapt to a multitude of cultures and obtain certifications that guarantee our excellent work.

-Coments that you have quality certifications …

-Yes. We have achieved them with the unity of a great team. It is important that each department is very demanding, purchasing selecting suppliers, quality with its analytical requirement, and so on. In the end it is about making it clear that our honey is processed and packaged in facilities with the highest quality and food safety. And of course, we have all learned these values ​​of honey thanks to our director.

-Cease; You are the director of Maes and you are part of the fourth generation of the family. You have known many situations in the markets, but perhaps now you are experiencing a particular moment. There is a lot of controversy about the nature of honey. What would you say to the readers?

-The first thing to keep in mind is that honey is made by bees with the nectar of flowers that they collect several kilometers away. Therefore, it is difficult to control if the plants have had any treatment. The next link is the beekeeper himself who must take care of the treatments administered to the hives. And then it is when we receive the honey. Due to the previous factors we have a protocol by which we analyze everything received. We must guarantee the customer that the honey they receive is 100% pure, natural and free of antibiotic residues.

– And how do you guarantee that purity?

-Analyzing all honey in reference laboratories worldwide. Performing more than 3000,000 analytics, among which is the NMR, currently the most innovative method to detect any adulteration, origin and purity.
